How Long Can We Keep Holdin' On?

Trent Reznor's new(ish) band How to Destroy Angels announced a full album to be released March 5th entitled Welcome Oblivion. Today they released the first single from the album, along with this video, directed by Shynola (wiki, facebook), an artist collective known best for their work with other musicians such as Radiohead (Radiohead Blips, Pyramid Song), and UNKLE (Guns Blazing, Eye for an Eye). The video for HtDA' track "How Long" was shot in Wales and has some spectacular imagery. It also invokes some strong feelings by featuring a pretty vicious murder, so if you aren't apt to like seeing something like that, you might want to skip the video, and just check out the song on it's own.

Epic Day

The Flaming Lips have returned with this noisy fast-paced track "Sun Blows Up Today." They have only released this video as of yet, which is listed as a lyric video... don't know if that means there will be a traditional video in the works for the single, but there could be.

Intergalactic Party Bus

Last night some friends and I had a great night out. It started at the apartment, Sarah, Mars, Monica, Ben, Ami and I, with some beers, then we decided to round up more friends and hit up one of our favorite Monday night hot spots, Crazy Burger. Cory, Danielle, Connie, Baby Jessie and our new friend Kyle joined us there, and after a beer and a burger, we decided to hit up another one of our favorite Monday night hot spots, Toronado! Connie, Ami, and Monica parted ways on the way to Toronado, but Rachel joined us there. After a couple beers there, the party was ready to roll. Rachel and Baby Jessie departed, and as the rest of us stepped outside, lo' and behold, there she stood. A full size bus aglow with spectacular lights and awesome jam-metal-trancey-goodness flowing through it's walls and windows. The side of the bus read "Interstellar Transmissions." What was left of us hopped on the bus and were treated to some amazing music, and met some awesome new people. The bus drove around the North Park/Normal Heights/City Heights/South Park area for quite some time. We danced, laughed, drank, and danced some more before the bus announced it would be headed towards Hillcrest soon, so we hopped off as that'd be the opposite direction we were headed. We walked on back to the apartment where Mars, Ben and I just hung out in the garage for a while, before deciding to obtain some Mexican food to offset our level of intoxication. We ate our burritos and talked about how rad the night had been and how awesome the music was. This morning I woke up feeling refreshed and maybe still a bit high from that brownie I ate. Haha. So I give to you a couple videos from Interstellar Transmissions! The first is like a little intro video. Talks about them and what they are doing. The following is a full jam, recorded at Symbiosis Festival this past year.

Drippy Eyes.

Grizzly Bear toss us another video this morning from their album Sheilds. This track, "gun-shy" is pretty low-key; much more chill than their last video for "Yet Again" which edged the line of psychedelic/indie rock. But where this song lacks in psychedelic tendencies, the video picks up the slack.

Storming on Valentine's Day

Apparat releases "A Violent Sky," a track from the forthcoming album Krieg und Frieden which is due out the day after Valentine's Day.

I see Midnight City

Wasn't sure this track was going to work when I saw the title, but it's pretty damn good!

Rez

Bassnectar released a great remix of Underworld's track Rez. Not as wompy as Bassnectar's brosteppy stuff, and much more melodic. Really digging this fresh feel to this old great!

Cyriaktifractal

Downtempo/Electronic artist Simon Greene known as Bonobo announced a new album coming soon, entitled The North Borders and has released a video for the first single from the album. Check out "Cirrus" an excellent track, with a trippy music video directed by Cyriak, who's done other videos such as Flying Lotus' "Putty Boy Strut."

Fractalball

Great track here with a sample from the 1993 classic "Cannonball" by The Breeders. The video leaves much to be desired here, especially considering I really, really like fractals, and I'm just like... "Meh." Maybe you'll enjoy it though, but the music is excellent!

No Widget??

So Soundcloud isn't giving me a widget for this mix, so I'm just gonna have to link you to it. Thom Yorke released this mix today, via Dazed Digital's Soundcloud account. 9 tracks in total, all unreleased stuff. New things from Atoms for Peace, some Liars in there, and some remixes of Radiohead tracks. Excellent stuff. Check it out over here at Dazed Digital's Soundcloud.

"I'm Bored"

Really digging this ambient/downtempo track from Paradis. Gotta do some hunting and find so more from this group/artist. Haven't been home in a while, and couchsurfing doesn't really lend well to actually sitting down and music hunting like I can at my own computer. Still, I at least have a great track and video for you to check out. If you like it, maybe you'll go hunting for it on your own.

1991 comes round again

Here's a little flashback courtesy of my friend Michael Buehl. He played this tonight at his birthday party. I'd completely forgotten about this song, and didn't even remember it was Seal. Crazy, huh?

Won't you finish this quest with me?

Today was hard. I cried and cried and cried. All I wanted to do was call you, but I can't. I miss you so, so much. These two weeks are going to be harder than I imagined. Today I burst into tears when I heard "Don't You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia. Out of nowhere, and cried for the rest of the day off and on. I just wish I could hear your voice, see you in front of me, and hold you in my arms. I love you.

1000 calories off on an elliptical.

My friend Rachel and I went to work out last night and she introduced me to this artist on the way there. This is Goldroom. She played some mix for me, which I wasn't into that much to be honest, but I've listened to a few of his singled, including this one which she also played for me. I'll have to get some full albums to see what's up, but I'm not at home so I can't download things for a while. Anyway, hope you enjoy it! This is Sweetness Alive.

Primal Instincts.

Monarchy returns with a strong track released yesterday. The whole album will be released later this year. The music is a bit more bass driven, definitely still dance-able, and features Dita Von Teese in the video, and singing on the track. Andrew Armstrong had this to say about working with Dita on the video:

"She's a 1950's style housewife stuck in a toxic, dry relationship. She's fantasizing, releasing herself in a dream world of lovers. We considered doing an x-rated version of it. Maybe we will some day. There should be something reserved, unreachable, unobtainable about an ideal muse-close enough to inspire, but just out of reach to keep the mystery. We have that in Dita."

Ain't nobody gonna love me like the devil do.

Holly Golightly is playing a show on Friday in Temecula. If I hadn't already had a prior engagement, I would be there in a second. Hopefully another time! I have some friends that are going though, so I'm sure I will hear all about it.

Youtube parties sometimes yield great things.

Found Floex while youtube surfing with Mars the other day. Really digging their ambient sounds, and this track with it's french lyrics is quite nice. The video is strange, pretty, and not like most videos, so that was nice. Check out some other songs of theirs! The first song I came across was the track "Ursa Major," which can be found here. To be honest, I like it better than the video I'm playing for you, but alas, there is no video for it. The video here is for the track "Nel Blu" and features the vocalist Musetta.

Oblivion vs Do Ya Thang

Pitchfork.com one of the most respected and hated music review/blogging sites around has released their top tracks of the year 2012, and Grimes' "Oblivion" has won their hearts. What do you think of the track? Do you like it better than the Gorillaz/Andre 3000/James Murphy joint I listed as my favorite track of 2012?

Can you feel the love?

I want to be this cool when I'm this old. Wish I could have seen this in person. So awesome.

My #1 favorite female vocalist.

You have no idea how much I cry when I hear your voice. This night I cried watching you sing. The whole night was amazing. How we rushed directly after this to my see my Grandmother play at her church, and the wonderful Christmas time that we spent with each other. I'll never forget the beautiful moments we've shared with each other. I've never heard anything so beautiful. I've never met anyone so beautiful. I've never shared such a beautiful experience with anyone else in my life. I hope we can get through this. I can't lose you, Stephanie.

Bells bells bells

Hot off the press this video was just released sometime in the last 9 hours. It was the first thing I found this morning, and it was a great way to ring in the day. The song features Pantha Du Prince and The Bell Laboratory performing on a bell carillon which is a three-ton instrument with 50 bronze bells. It is quite spectacular to behold.

10 years later

David Bowie has finally released another song! 10 years since his last release, David Bowie has released a song, and an accompanying video. The song is called "Where are We Now" and it will be featured on the album The Next Day. The release of this song coincides with his 66th birthday, which was yesterday, January 7th. Check out the video below!

As long as I have you.

This song says so many things that I wish I could ever have the words for. Stephanie: I'm standing right here in front of you. Showing you all the love I have to offer. Lyrics can be found here.
I wish I had a voice half as beautiful as yours, so I could sing this song to you. At the end, I'd add the line, "As long as I have you." I hope we can get past this trial. I know it's hard, but I am willing to put in every last ounce of love I have, every last drop of sweat, blood, and tears, I just want you to stay.

Hunting

What do The xx, Kanye West, Pendulum, Metric, & Eminem have in common? Well, this mash-up of course! I found this track while looking for this song which was featured at the beginning of this promotional video for Tommorrowland.

Staying

Skrillex finally releases a real dubstep track! I totally dig it. Feels like Burial meets Emika at times. I wonder what would happen if he released a whole album like this!?

Sunsets and remixes.

Jamie xx released this awesome remix of The xx's "Sunset" yesterday. This makes 2 days in a row where I've posted a remix I enjoyed better than the original. For comparison, the original can be heard here.

Lock the doors, lower the blinds

I loved this track before, but I have to admit, it's much nicer when it's got some more music to it.

S.S. Coachella Hookups

The iconic James Murphy teams up with indie rock legends Pulp on track "After All." James and Pulp were both recently on S.S. Coachella. Check it out their collaboration here!

So close, yet so far.

Just in case you didn't know. I wish you were here. When you texted me yesterady saying Happy New Year, and to be safe have fun, it made me so happy at first, then it made me so horribly sad. I tried to text you back, but I was so scared that I'd say the wrong thing. I tried texting you back several times, writing out something different, and then becoming really sad/anxious, and deciding I shouldn't send it. I don't know if you realize I miss you, but I want you to know I do. And if you ever gave me another chance, I'd never let you go.
