Spontaneous Combustion

I know I just posted about Disclosure a couple weeks ago when I found out two of their tracks were featured on the newest issue of Now That's What I Call Music, but they released a new video yesterday, so  here it is! I wish it had the original intro from the album, but there was probably an issue with copyright stuffs. Anywhoozle, here's Disclosure's 'When A Fire Starts To Burn' from Settle.
I'm off to Mexico tonight to see my friends Ripe Red Apple sing some blues and then celebrate my birthday at midnight!! Wish me luck!

G-Squadron

I spotted this video by Secret Circuit on pitchfork at the same time I spotted that DJ Koze video I posted two days ago. I've had some time to check out more music from the LA based musician and there's a bunch of material to cover and I've been pretty impressed with what I've heard so far. His facebook describes his sound and what he's doing as "The axis field of SECRET CIRCUIT mixes Psychedelic, and started up as a band inviting one basic member and various guest in the place where free Music was expressed and permanent Cosmic, Jam-Disco, Soul, Funk, and Jazz." Check it out for yourselves and if you like it, head over to his bandcamp throw some money at him and pick up one of his albums! Here's 'Rogue Unit' from the 2013 album Tactile Galactics,

Art Mimics Art

A couple months ago I got into this artist Marina Abramović. Her story is quite fascinating, and she has a great deal of very moving work. In 1974 one of her works, Rhythm 0 put her in very real danger and gave us a glimpse as to just how warped some humans are. Here is a short clip about Rhythm 0.

Now, you may all be like... what is this? I thought this is a music blog, what's going on? The reason I share this information about Marina is because today a band called Unknown Mortal Orchestra released a video in which they pay a little homage to Abramović's Rhythm 0. I heard about Unknown Mortal Orchestra from my friend Connie just not too long ago, and they just happened to release this new video today so I thought I'd share it with you all. The song is catchy, reminds me of The Polyphonic Spree for some reason. Though the similarities are very minuscule, it just reminds me of them for some reason. At any rate, check out Unknown Mortal Orchestra's 'From the Sun.'

Bodacious Badonkadonk

Major Lazer are back with their brand new video Bubble Butt! Just released today this video features Eric as a director again. I think the pairing of Tim and Eric with Major Lazer just brings gold. I really don't have much to say about this video other than prepare for absurd asses. It's amazing. I also love that they rip on the SeaPunk scene a little bit at the begining. Trying to start a fight there? Haha.

Fetish Music Videos?

So I stumbled upon this video the other day while checking out some other stuff on Pitchfork. It's got to be one of the most bizarre music videos I've ever seen in my life. I have no idea what's going on. It this a video for vinyl fetishists? Furries maybe? Abduction fetishists? At any rate, the reason I'm posting it is because the song is excellent. I know Apparat's Krieg und Frieden just came out not that long ago, but it's nice to have another small dose of him in this track from DJ Koze. Now, I hadn't even heard of DJ Koze (Stefan Kozalla), but according to wikipedia he's been in the music industry for a while. In 1988 at the age of 16, he was in a mixing competition, and was later in a hiphop group (weird to know after hearing this track) and has also recorded under the moniker "Adolf Noise" which I find pretty amusing. As DJ Koze, he has released 4 albums, so I've got some work to do in catching up on his catalog and finding out what else is good in there! So for you all, here's 'Nices Wölkchen' feat. Apparat.

Through the Desert

Jon Hopkins is an artist I found pretty recently. I was glad to find him because I found him in the middle of my ambient kick recently and he's spectacular. Hopkins has worked with many other musicians as well. He started out as a keyboardist for Imogen Heap, and has since worked with the likes of Brian Eno, Coldplay, and David Holmes, just to name a few. Jon has 3 albums before this new one that is due out soon, four if you count 2010's soundtrack for the film Monsters. The new album, Immunity, features this lovely track, 'Open Eye Signal'. There's a great little remix of 'Open Eye Signal' here on xlr8r from Nosaj Thing. The regular version of the song however, has this fantastic video of a young skateboarder on an epic journey through the desert. The video flows just as well as the song and they feed off each other so well. So check it out, here's 'Open Eye Signal' from Jon Hopkins' 5th studio album Immunity, due out June 4th.

Like Walking Through An Album Cover

Tycho is an artist that's been on my list for a while. My friend introduced me to Sunrise Projector a number of years back and I've enjoyed the following two albums from Tycho immensely, even listing his 2011 album Dive as one of my favorite albums of the year. If you haven't heard of Tycho and/or are unfamiliar with his music, here's a great description I read on youtube: "its like Boards of Canada got high and went surfing," pretty amusing, but I get it. For me it's great morning music. I can picture getting out there on the waves in the morning with the sun coming up and this matching perfectly. Now, releasing a video for an album that dropped seemingly two years ago might seem silly, but Scott Hansen puts a lot of work into his music and it could be a while before we see another album from him. He's also busy with a pretty successful music/concept/all sorts of things blog over at ISO50. Tycho is on the label Ghostly International, which boasts a stellar lineup including the likes of Heathered Pearls, Com Truise, Gold Panda, Dauwd, Phantogram, Shigeto, and many more. Anyway, without further blabbering (I know most of you are just here for the music) here's the "new" Tycho: 'Ascension' from Dive.

Flower of Love (Recap)

Well. I feel a little let-down. What I wanted to do for the next few days was go over which DJ's I liked best each day, or favorite tracks I heard while out on the dance floor. There was one song in particular that I wanted to share with you guys. I heard it a couple of times, and had talked to a friend I made out there about it. We agreed the next time we heard it we would go ask the DJ what it was. We heard it again, and ran up there and said he had heard it a couple times and wanted to know what it was. He seemed offended I had said I heard it played by other people, but gave me the name of the track anyway, "Monday Trolling," to which I thought in my head... this guy's obviously trolling me, and that's not the name of the track. Anyway, I get home, look it up and that is indeed not the track I was looking for, it was however, a track I heard out there. So balls. The track remains a mystery. Hopefully I will find it someday, but with nothing to go on there isn't anything I can do but hope I hear it again.

Kevin Anderson, a San Diego based DJ affiliated with the Desert Hearts Collective, played on Sunday afternoon/early evening and played a great set. He will also be spinning for my friends at the Astrolab on Thursday night which they will be streaming through ustream. Check out their facebook here: Audio Impact Entertainment.

The DJ I enjoyed best was Taeo, a guy from here in San Diego, who unfortunately doesn't have a soundcloud or anything for me to share with you. He played an amazing ambient set early in the morning on Monday and it made the desert the perfect dreamy place to wake up to for me. It was kind of funny because later in the day some friends that I had made at Flower of Love said they thought that it was me at the decks. At one point we had been talking about how I really wanted some ambient music late late at night or early morning, and that I was just going to have to do it myself. Unfortunately I know nothing about mixing, so I'd just be playing a song, then another, and not blending them. Well this DJ didn't really use transitions, and my friends were like, "OMG Did Fred get up there and start playing music?" Hahaha. Ahhhh. It was decided next time, I will need to play a set. I've been piecing it together in my head ever since.

Anyway. Flower of Love was amazing, and hopefully I'll be able to find that track some day, and if I ever see Taeo make a soundcloud, I will certainly direct you to it. I'll give you this at least: Me as the Magical Unicorn with another new friend I made out there, Cotton.
And here is the Sunset and (Full Moon) Moon-rise, which both occurred at the same time on Friday night, a spectacular sight it was.

Flower of Love

Today I'll be heading out to the Mojave Desert in California for a little music festival featuring several Cali-based dj's, mostly from SoCal. I'll be out there for a number of days, so I won't be posting for these days till I get back. I'll keep track of who I saw on which days, and when I return, I'll post about the best acts I see each day. Below the poster is a list of (some) of the bands playing in case you want to do your own sleuthing!

Retroception

Somebody made this awesome 8-bit cover by Dmovsky of Power Glove's 'Blood Dragon Theme' from the video game soundtrack I posted about a week or so ago. The cover is awsome, and a hilariously redundant, as pointed out in this amusing comment left on the youtube page for the video: "Yo dawg, i heard you like retro... So we made a retro videogame music from a retro videogame music made by a retro-synth artists appearing in a retro-futuristic game." Anyway, check out this awesome little remix/cover if you like you some 8-bit tunes, and/or if you enjoyed the original songs from the soundtrack.

Winning teh Internets

My friend posted this video to her facebook the other day with the note: "GUYS, GUYS: I found the essence of the internet and it is hella NSFL and also hurts your eyes a lot, but it sounds reeeeeeaaaal good." I've found myself going back and listening to it a number of times. So I thought I'd share it with you all too. The video does have an epilepsy warning on it, just letting you know ahead of time. Pryapisme's music is labeled under "Expirimental Electronic Avant-Garde Math Noise," which I'd say is a very accurate description of their sound. "Metal" should probably be thrown into there somewhere too.

Epilepsy Warning?

My first introduction to Ryoji Ikeda was a couple days ago when I found his track, 'data.matrix' from his album Dataplex while hunting down minimalist/ambient/noise music. After a little bit of research I learned that Ikeda is not just a musician, but a visual artist as well. Ryoji, a resident of Paris, France, "elaborately orchestrates sound, visuals, materials, physical phenomena and mathematical notions into immersive live performances and installations." After watching a number of youtube videos, I'm very interested in seeing one of these performances live. Really hope I get a chance to! If you dig his music, he has a number of albums, tracing back to 1995. So far I've enjoyed 2005's Dataplex, 2008's Test Pattern, and +/- (1997) the best.

Here, Ikeda performs 'data.matrix' with visuals at Sónar (International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art) in Barcelona.

One More Star (In the Sky)

The world lost a talented producer, singer, and disc jockey May 7th. Romanthony, an American himself, more popular across the pond than here in America, had 4 albums under his belt, and a slew of singles across several genres including house, hip-hop, and r&b. Of these, 'Let Me Show You Love' and 'Hold On' were my favorites.

(Born) Anthony Moore, owner and founder of Black Male Records has worked with a few other musicians of note. His work with the Netherlands trio of producers Kraak & Smaak resulted in a few tracks of note. Here is 'Built For Love' from their work together.

His most notable work for most though, was his work with the popular French duo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, aka Daft Punk. Romanthony worked his magic for the vocals on the beloved 'Too Long' and 'One More Time' and is also credited as co-writer of these two popular tracks from Daft Punk's Discovery. In a 2001 Interview, de Homem-Christo speaking of Romanthony and Todd Edwards (who was featured on the track 'Face to Face' from the album Discovery) said:
"What's odd is that Romanthony and Todd Edwards are not big in the United States at all. Their music had a big effect on us. The sound of their productions — the compression, the sound of the kick drum and Romanthony's voice, the emotion and soul — is part of how we sound today. Because they mean something to us, it was much more important for us to work with them than with other big stars."

Producer Boys Noize tweeted this morning:
"Romanthony and me were working on such an amazing song together. he said it was the best song he had ever written."
I hope Boys Noize has enough to work with that he can finish the track and help keep Romanthony's legend in motion. Romanthony has left behind a large catalog of music for us to enjoy, but he will indeed be missed.

Fun ways to find new bands!

Every once in a while I "obtain" music based solely on album titles, track titles, or album art without knowing anything about the band or their music. A handful of times this has resulted in me wasting money and/or time on some really shitty music, but more often than not, it's been awesome. The first example I can remember of this was Mindless Self Indulgence's album Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy, which I purchased because of the album title and cover art. Com Truise and the similarly named Mord Fustang are both bands I picked up music from based just on their names, as is Fuck, I'm a Ghost.
Bleep Bloop, an excellent glitch-hop/trap musician is the newest group I've found in this manner, just yesterday. And I believe Itch-E & Scratch-E & iamamiwhoami round out that list.

There's an onslaught of post-rock bands that I've picked up based just on their names, I mean, who can resist with some of these?
65daysofstatic - And So I Watch You from Afar - ...And Stars Collide - Collapse Under The Empire - The Declining Winter - The End of Science - Explosions In The Sky - Fuck, I'm a Ghost - I Am Waiting for You  Last Summer - If These Trees Could Talk - There Will be Fireworks - These Hands Could Separate the Sky - Three Steps to the Ocean - We Are Ghosts - We Invented the Night

Some other bands I've found in fun ways have been two bands named Mono, who I found while I was searching for another band named Mono. So I now have three bands named Mono in my catalog. The one I was searching for in the first place is Mono, the U.K trip-hop group famous for their track 'Life in Mono.' The next Mono I found was the Japanese post-rock group who I believe I've posted about on the blog before. Here' a track from them: 'Everlasting Light.' And the third and final Mono I found was a house/prog house group. Here's 'Let's Go' from them.

I also found a band called Moogwai, whilst searching for the band Mogwai. Moogwai is an electronic/trance DJ while Mogwai is an experimental/post rock group.

I found the band Infected Mushroom when I helped my Grandparents purchase a new computer. They opted for an iMac (the big old round ones, this particular one had blue dalmatian print) which had been used as a model on the store's floor. Because of this, the iTunes library already had a couple songs in it already and I was intrigued by the band name, so I checked out the song 'Symphonatic' which had an amazing sample that just struck me for some reason and that lead to my beginning to delve into psytrance/goa.

And last but not least is the mystery bands Mileece, Lullatone, Aus, %, and Bola. Aus, %, and Bola had all been in my music folder for quite some time, and I had thought they had come from my friend Matt, but he said that I gave them to him and that he hadn't heard of them. So really, I have absolutely no idea where they came from. Mileece and Lullatone are a different story. One morning I woke up and found a note on my computer desk that said "Mileece" and "Lullatone" both underlined a few times. Now, the night before I had done some drinking, and was chatting on some yahoo chat rooms. The typical people I chat with about music all said they hadn't heard of the bands, so I don't know who it was that told me to check them out, but whoever you are/were, mystery yahoo chatter: Thank you!

Smothered N Covered

Last night I went to The Royal Dive, in Oceanside, CA to see some friends play. Bean Shaker was the first band, in which my friend Anna Zinova played the violin. I wasn't too fond of their act, the whole thing seemed a bit off, but who knows, it could have just been a bad night for them. They did play a cover of Dramarama's 'Anything Anything' that was fun. Taken By Canadians were up next, Anna plays the violin for them as well and does some singing along with Ben Ambrosini who plays the guitar and sings, and Marco Savoia plays the upright bass. They seemed to be on fire; the lighting gave them a bit of a firey-looking glow, and they played a great set. I'd seen them before, but I really enjoy their tunes, so I went to check them out again. The last time I had seen them perform at this particular venue, I had to leave early, so I didn't see the headlining act of the show, Dan Bern. Well, Dan Bern was playing last night so I finally got to check him out and what an awesome act it was! Dan Bern, a singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, CA, has twenty albums under his belt; the first released in 1996. His music varies a bit, from folksy tunes, to county-rock, and a lot of Americana. Here's a quick song he played last night, this recording from WLRN in Florida.

The man is a amazingly talented artist. This is from his facebook bio:
"Dan Bern is best known for his prolific songwriting and electric live persona. He has released eighteen albums and built a loyal following based on prodigious touring and output of songs in all forms. In 2012, Bern released two new studio recordings showcasing the American roots music that has made Bern one of the most compelling singer/songwriters of his generation: "Drifter," a vagabond’s journey through Bern’s musical universe featuring a duet with Emmylou Harris, and "Doubleheader," an 18-song tribute to baseball culled from close to 30 years of songwriting and recorded at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios in Marin County. Both CDs feature longtime collaborators Common Rotation with whom Bern has also released two live recordings.

Since 2007, Bern has also focused his talent and sharp wit on writing songs for movies and other projects. He composed over a dozen songs for the Jake Kasdan/Judd Apatow spoof-biopic "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" and composed songs included in Apatow’s "Get Him to the Greek," starring Russell Brand. Bern’s song "One Dance" was also included in Kasdan's first film "Zero Effect" starring Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller, and Ryan O’Neal.

Bern wrote "Swing Set," a duet with Emmylou Harris, for the off Broadway production of "Family Week" directed by Jonathan Demme and wrote the title song for Demme’s documentary "Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains." In 2007, his album "Breathe" won Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter at the Sixth Annual Independent Music Awards. He has toured with Marshall Crenshaw, Ani DiFranco, and John C. Reilly’s country-infused band and in 2011 he contributed original songs for the television series Hellcats.

A talented and eclectic creator, he wrote a song with Hunter S. Thompson, gave Wilt Chamberlain tennis lessons, and released "2 feet Tall," an album of songs for very young kids. He also wrote and illustrated "Cleaver the Gronk" (2012) and the novel "Quitting Science" (2004) under the pen name Cunliffe Merriwether. Bern lives with his wife and daughter in Los Angeles."

Here's another track, 'Jerusalem' which I really really dig. Just great songwriting, and great storytelling.

Genre Naming

So one of the biggest problems I have with using genres to describe this music is I just flat out don't agree with some of the names people use. The track I'm posting today is for some reason considered Glitch Hop, but it contains elements that are so Swing-like, or Electro-Swing in it as well, that I would say it should have a different name than Glitch Hop. But the problem with multi-genred tracks, is what do you call them? I abhor people who say things like Electro-Sub-Glitch-Core-Grime. Fuck off. That's not a genre. I don't mind some of the names that are well planned like Psychobilly, Folktronica, Slowcore, yadda yadda yadda. Anywhoozle. I really dig this track, and as many of you know what I say in this situation: Fuck Genres. Here it is, Varien & Razihel's 'Toothless Hawkins (And His Robot Jazz Band)' one of the newest releases from Monstercat!

ZEE

I love when new music leads to new music leads to new music leads to...
Remember that Turntable.fm festival I told you guys about back in April? Memory Waves Festival? Well, I found this guy Jamie Watts aka KiloWatts through that, and really dug some of the tunes he was playing, so I added him on facebook. Well tonight he was streamed a set from The Wonder Bar in Boston, MA. It was a pretty fantastic set, and I was really glad to see him play a real set in this manner than just what I had seen on Turntable. Then the next group took the stage: Zebbler Encanti Experience. You may recognize the name Zebbler... he's the VJ that brought us the Shpongletron! Excellent live visuals from Zebbler and excellent glitchy tunes from Encanti!
First, here's 'Monument' from KiloWatts (sorry, he doesn't have any videos yet). KiloWatts is typically super ambient, downtempo chill music. Jamie has a bunch of tunes on his Soundcloud, so check that out if you dig this track).
And here's a little video giving you an idea what the Zebbler Encanti Experience is like (it gets quite a bit crazier than KiloWatts, so if you turned your volume up for that, you might need to turn it back down). They have quite a collection of videos and other goodies on their official site as well.

LOVEFOXXX'S LOCKS

CSS are back! Planta is due June 11th, and today their released this video for the first single, 'Hangover' from their fourth studio album. Planta will be their first album since Adriano Cintra, the band's now former producer and multi-instrumentalist who left the group citing a number of reasons including he felt the rest of the band had let fame go to their heads. If this track is any indication, it doesn't sound like he was that big of an asset to the band and they will do just fine without him. CSS is playing tonight in Liverpool, and head to California soon to kick off their North American tour through June and July with stops across the United States and one stop in Canada. Check out 'Hangover' (look at that long hair on Lovefoxxx!) and if you dig it, you can preorder the album digitally via iTunes, or through their official site if you'd like to snatch it up on vinyl!

Four-Tone System

Last night I had the amazing opportunity to check out a couple local musicians at a small intimate house show/pot luck/party. One of the bands, Taken By Canadians I had already seen before, a number of times. I found out about this little show from my friend Anna, who plays some stringed instruments for Taken By Canadians. I showed up at the event, held in a house in Carlsbad, not really knowing what to expect. As I arrived, Mandarin Dynasty was wrapping up their sound check and began shortly afterward. Anna played some violin for them as well. Mandarin Dynasty, a three piece outfit from Encinitas, California, put on a great show. They're a little indie-rock, and a hell of a lot of adorable. Check out some of their 2011 album, Perpendicular Crosstalk here via Bandcamp. If you dig them, check out their Bandcamp for more and consider tossing them some greenbacks for their effort!

2007 As The Future

So I've been playing this rad new game called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and it has a killer soundtrack! Definitely one of my favorite video game soundtracks. The album, made by Power Glove, is full of rich synth sounds and retrowave goodness. The soundtrack is the Melbourne, Australia band's first full length album, with only one EP and a few singles behind them. Here's a few tracks from Power Glove's Soundcloud. You can listen to the whole album here for now, but I'm pretty sure that will be taken down at some point. And here's a little trailer for the game. It's absolutely hilarious, definitely worth checking out!

Now That's *Actually* What I Call Music!

Disclosure (one of the highlights at Coachella this year) has somehow been featured on the newest edition of the music compilation series Now That's What I Call Music, which is evidently on their 84th release of the main series (there have been a number of other series that have branched off that are more genre specific, or otherwise). The uk garage/bass music duo hailing from England have 5 EP releases under their belt and are dropping their first LP June 3rd. Disclosure managed to get 2 songs on the Now... release, one on each disc. The first disc of the compilation contains the track 'Latch' which features Sam Smith. I wasn't aware the Now... series had gone the route of mixing electronic tunes into the mix, but I guess with the popularity of dance music in general these days, it's basically pop music. Here's 'Latch.'

The second disc contains the track 'White Noise' which features AlunaGeorge.

2013: Alex Metric Odyssey

Alex Metric's video from 'Ilium' was released a couple days ago. 'Ilium' is featured on Alex Metric's EP, Ammunition Pt 3 which was released early last month. Alex Metric has 8 EPs under his belt since 2007, but has yet to release a full length album. The video for 'Ilium' is spaced themed with a Tron-esque color scheme, and some pretty apparent 2001: A Space Odyssey references, if it's not meant to just be a straight up homage to the film. Check out the video and if you enjoy it, scope out some more of his tunes on soundcloud!

Ethereal Ecoreal

David Sugalski aka The Polish Ambassador released his new album Ecozoic on tuesday under the pay what you want platform that is becoming more and more prevalent these days. All of his previous albums are available this way as well through his official website. In just these quick few days it has become the second best selling album on bandcamp in all of bandcamps history, and has been the top selling album the past few days. The Oakland based DJ had this to say to his fans about the popularity of his new release:

"Ecozoic has been the #1 selling electronic album on Bandcamp for the past two days. #2 selling overall. The amazing thing is, is that Ecozoic is a "Name Your Price" album. If that's not an indication of how rad and generous you guys are, I don't know what is." - David Sugalski

Ecozoic is multi-genred with a mixture of some jamtronica ala Sound Tribe Sector 9, the choppy dubstep tracks of Bassnectar's Mesmerizing the Ultra album, and many other facets and sounds. I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to him perform at the Memory Waves Festival last month and was very pleased with what I heard. Anyway, check out the album, and if you enjoy it, consider hopping over to his bandcamp and throwing your money at him. If you can't afford to spare the cash, all he asks is you share it with friends (exactly what I'm doing with you right now) so that his music can be heard and enjoyed by more people:

"I give all of my music away for free. It's the least I can do for you, the people that are allowing me to do what I love. If you do or do not have the money to purchase this album, sharing it is the best way to support this music in it's growth and evolution. Thank you for being the biggest part of this project."

Can You Whisper?

Found this excellent remix of The Naked and Famous' 'Young Blood' today while I was looking up info on Danny Lohner aka Renholdër (facebook). Danny Lohner is famous for his work with Nine Inch Nails, and has worked with many other different artists. He was also one of the founding members of the industrial group Skrew (facebook), and was a member of the metal band Angkor Wat. He is currently working with Maynard James Keenan (of Tool, Pucifer, and other projects) in the band Pucifer as a studio musician, but isn't touring with the group. Danny has previously worked with Maynard in the band Tapeworm, which never finished an album. Danny has released many remixes under the pseudonym Renholdër for other artists as well, such as A Perfect Circle (another Maynard James Keenan project), Eminem, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Ministry, David Bowie, Linkin Park, as well as many others. This track, however is definitely one of my favorite mixes from him (of the ones that I listened to today, which was quite a lot), and it's by far the best remix of this already excellent track from The Naked and Famous. Hope you enjoy!

Religious Pasties!

David Bowie returns with another video, this time the title track from his 2013 album The Next Day. The video, staring David Bowie, Gary Oldman (everything ever filmed) and Marion Cotillard (Big Fish, Inception), is full of religious imagery including Bowie wearing monk robes, blood gushing stigmata hands, and of course, hookers! So yeah, I guess this video isn't quite safe for work. The video was "written and conceived  by David Bowie, and is directed by Floria Sigismondi, the same woman who directed his last video, 'The Stars (Are Out Tonight).' So here it is, 'The Next Day.'

Instrumental Post-Rock Excellence

Sorry I don't have much time to post today, I'm off to see Bonobo and El Ten Eleven tonight at the Belly Up in Solana Beach! I posted a new video from Bonobo the other day and mentioned the concert, so I thought tonight I'd post a video from El Ten Eleven, because I don't think I ever have on this blog. So without further ado, here is 'My Only Swerving' from El Ten Eleven.

Of Mumford and Bjork

So I've heard Of Monsters and Men several times on the radio... their song 'Mountain Sound' is played quite often. The other day I noticed my friend had posted a video of them on facebook, but I wasn't that pleased with 'Mountain Sound' so I just passed over it. Then I saw the same video again on reddit on the front page and figured I'd check it out since I wasn't doing anything at the time. The video is of them in some kind of music space, maybe a recording studio, or in their home, and features them performing an excellent little acoustic cover of MGMT's 'Kids.' After hearing this, I checked out their full album My Head is an Animal, and I was pretty pleased with it. I jokingly called them Of Mumford and Bjork (Mumford and Sons/Bjork), or Mumford + the Machine (Mumford and Sons/Florence + the Machine). I guess I just didn't like 'Mountain Sound' that much because of how often I heard it. Anyway, here's the video!
