It's Happening!

Late last night (yeah, I was up till 4am) I stumbled upon a bit of a mystery. As many of you know yesterday was Record Store Day. A day in which record stores across the world hold special events, and special limited edition records are released for sale. I picked up the Foals rsd release and the Cut Copy rsd release, and also found excellent condition copies of Electric Light Orchestra's Out of the Blue, and the soundtrack for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Music collectors and lovers anticipate this day each year, and go through the list of each release that will be hitting the shelves. This year, however, one release wasn't on Record Store Day's list of releases. That release was from Warp Records, a short recording by Boards of Canada. Now, at first this may not seem like a big deal, but BoC has a pretty massive cult following, and the details behind this release are a bit of a mystery. Boards of Canada haven't released an album since 2005's The Campfire Headphase. Yesterday was also the 15th anniversary of Boards of Canada's Music Has The Right To Children
The record is single sided, and has a roughly 20 second clip of a very boards-of-canada-ey voice with synth backing. Then a digitized voice saying a six digit number once, and then the recording cuts out. On the front of the record "Boards of Canada" is written and beneath that a series of -'s, /'s, and X's, are arranged as follows "------ / ------ / ------ / XXXXXX / ------ / ------"
What people are putting together is that this is possibly 1 of 6 releases, and that all of them put together may equal a whole song. Also the numbers when put together from all releases may give us some information about a new album. So now we have to wait. People are putting this information up across the internets everywhere. So, hopefully all this means a new BoC record soon! Here is a video of the clip being played:

***2020k also has a post about it, which is being updated pretty regularly with any new evidence/findings that are coming out.
