(All artist names link to their facebook.)
Today I was lucky enough to catch word of a "Music Festival" taking place on turntable.fm, a site in which typically, users take turns playing music for each other. Today however, turntable saw several famous artists take to the site to put on quite the show. Huge names like Ulrich Schnauss, Tycho, Com Truise, Polish Ambassador, and Shigeto took the stage as well as many others. A number of the musicians who played I already knew, but a number of them I didn't, and now I have a ton of music I need to check out and artists/djs/bands that I need to delve into more.
Some of the best music from people I hadn't heard of before came from Heathered Pearls, Solar Fields, Shortcircles, Chrome Sparks, and Noble Oak. Other bands who played were Bluetech, Slugabed, Desert Dwellers, KiloWatts, Krusseldorf, Jacob 2-2, Selva Oscura, Corduroi, Nocow, Vaun, Ghosts, Ghostchant, Hypha, Spectrum Vision, and still others.
Turntable.fm has been around for quite a while now, and I've never seen anything like this being held on the site. It's quite possibly the first "Festival" of it's kind. The attendance was amazing as well. I've been using the site for a couple of years now, and I've never seen so many people in a room before... I don't think until today I'd seen over 200 people in the same room. But the "Chill or Be Chilled" room the festival was held in broke over 1100 users at times. I'm sure a lot of musicians made new fans, and a lot of fans got to hear a ton of great music. Really excited to see if this could become a new fad. It would certainly help out my wallet... "Real" Festivals are expensive!
